Local band Canasta recently released an album of remixes, and it’s available to download free on their web site.
I don’t know about you, but when I hear “remixes”, I tend to think I’m in for a dance album. And while there are certainly some dance numbers in here, the remix album as a whole is really varied. The opening remix of Microphone Song by The Claps is a dance number, but The Crash Davis Spectacular remix of Firenze is more of a trip-hop sound. The OFFICE remix of Impostors sounds like an alternate take, or perhaps a cover with the same vocals, whereas Bitmoth’s deconstructed and rebuilt mix of Head Hurts Better is essentially unrecognizable.
The remixes were done by a crew of bands, artists, and producers, largely from Chicago or the midwest. Go check it out!
The work of the Chicago Independent Radio Project is supported in part by a generous grant from the Crossroads Fund. More information at crossroadsfund.org.
